Summary
Follow rain as it falls, through a weather station, interacting with plants, rocks, and into the ocean.

Procedure

It rains a lot in Vancouver. What happens to it?
Chosse activities that follow rain: through a rain gauge/into plants/shaping rocks/into the ocean.

Model a rain gauge mechanism, which measures how much rain falls.

Adaptations of plant leaves for rain:
Water drops on leaves activity.

Plant roots reaching for water:
Observe different root shapes from common plants and weeds.

Water moving through a plant:
Use cut flowers to show how water moves through a plant - colouring a white flower activity.

Water wears away rocks:
Rock weathering activity to show how rain and flowing water break rocks down.

Streams and rivers erode and shapes the land:
Soil erosion activity using sand, to show how rain and flowing water changes our landscape by wearing down mountains.

Water enters the ocean:
Freshwater flowing into the ocean affects local ocean currents by changing temperature and salinity.
